Fidra, a rocky wee isle, is home to a lone lighthouse kept company by a small populations of guillemots, razorbills, gulls and puffins. Following a two-year operation involving 35 visits with canoes and infra-red cameras, a single invasive rat was removed from the island in 2024.

This invasive species has been doing its best to take over this and other nearby islands leaving the birds that nest there, specifically the puffins, with nowhere to go.
